American manufacturer Lucid announced last week that its Air sedan in Pure version will become, for the 2025 model year, the most efficient electric vehicle ever put into production.
The entry-level model with a rear motor could thus travel around 8 km per kilowatt-hour consumed compared to 6.4 km per kilowatt-hour for a Tesla Model S, its long-standing rival. This provides a total range of 676 km drawn from an 84 kWh battery, 4 kWh less than the 2024 model year.
Lucid did not detail the modifications made to its sedan to achieve this impressive result. It should be noted, however, that its extremely smooth body, with a drag coefficient of 0.197 cd, plays an important role. The manufacturer is also incorporating a heat pump as standard equipment for 2025 to reduce energy consumption in cold weather.
The 2025 Lucid Air Pure is available to order now with a price tag of $96,850.
