Luc Arbogast, revealed in 2013 on the show The Voice, performs in places he likes with his Via Antika Tour, which means old paths. The abbey church of Saint-Amand-de-Coly fits perfectly with the spirit that the singer wishes to give to this tour.
Communion with places
“I’m used to playing in the church, in high places of religion or historic places”, says the singer who began his career by performing on the forecourt of Strasbourg Cathedral. “When I prepare a concert like this on the Via Antiqua tour, I am very interested in the site. Beforehand, I was interested in the walls. I was interested in the history of the abbey. In general, when I am told you are going to play there, well I go on the Internet. I always look at books, I order books, I do an investigation. I am interested in history to enter into communion with the site, it is very important to me.”
“People who follow me from the show The Voice will be entitled to a few songs that they already know, announces Luc Arbogast. But I also make a point of making them discover other things, in particular sea shanties or music who are more from the Mediterranean basin. The idea is really to offer a panel of everything that drives me.”
Regional languages
Many ancient languages are included in Luc Arbogast’s repertoire. It is not excluded that he offers a song in Occitan in Saint-Amand-de-Coly. “I am a fervent defender of regional languages, be it Alsatian, Occitan, Basque. I think it’s really important that we keep this link with what the legacies of our ancestors. But this is not only valid for languages. When I see that people no longer wear traditional regional costumes, it’s something that annoys me terribly because it was part of our traditions not so long ago. I know that the Basque Country still strongly supports traditional costumes. For example, in Alsace, it’s starting to get lost, in Brittany too. So. So that is something that pains me a lot. I really encourage people to take an interest in their regional heritage. That’s really, really important.”
A future Périgord?
This is not the first time that Luc Arbogast has come to Dordogne. He knows the department well, he has played many times in the streets of Sarlat. Would he be ready to settle there? Yes ! “I fell in love with the Château de Bridoire. It’s a place that I really like. And I think that in the long term, if I have to choose a place to spend my old age, I would like to settle in the Dordogne.”
