What could the beginnings of an LR presidency look like? On the occasion of the first of the four debates bringing them together, Monday, November 8, one month before their party’s congress, the five candidates for the nomination of the Republicans presented the first measure that they would apply respectively if they were elected to the head of state.

Among the three main contenders who were debating on LCI, Michel Barnier indicated that he would start with a message to the armies and more broadly to “all those” who are responsible for security to send the “signal that security, which was the main failure of the quinquennium which is ending, will be the main priority of the new quinquennium”.
Valérie Pécresse insisted on the need to “unite the French nation” from school. The people celebrated would be Vercingétorix, Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, the hairy people of the Great War, Colonel Arnaud Beltrame or the caregivers of the Covid crisis.
Xavier Bertand said he wanted “order the president of EDF to launch the construction of 10 new nuclear reactors”, in order to “stop the decline of nuclear power in our country”, to guarantee a “security of supply” and “meet the requirements of ecological transition”. The president of the Hauts-de-France region pointed to a “mistake” of President Macron with the closure of Fessenheim.
As a first measure, Eric Ciotti wants a referendum so that France “recovers its legal sovereignty” compared to “the supremacy of European treaties” and that she “rediscovers the course of its destiny in matters of security and migration policy”.
Philippe Juvin wants to put “on the table a new European treaty” for “to rebuild Europe“, who “not going well” but is faced with subjects “immense” like “immigration, global warming”.
