(Lowell) Michela Cava and Sophie Jaques scored less than two minutes apart late in the first period to help Minnesota beat Boston 3-0 Tuesday in the professional league playoff final women’s hockey.
The series is now tied 1-1.
Nicole Hensley made 20 saves, taking Maddie Rooney’s place in net. Rooney had played his team’s last five games and posted two shutouts.
“It’s an incredible feeling [de réaliser le blanchissage], Hensley said. Of course, Maddie has carried our team on her shoulders, so it’s nice to be able to help out and give her a little break. It’s huge to get a win in the two road games, because that’s what you’re aiming for in the playoffs. I look forward to returning to Minnesota for our fans. »
The Walter Cup final series moves to Minnesota for the next two matches. The next duel will be played Friday evening.
Cava opened the scoring at 14:25 of play, scoring his second goal of the series. Jaques then beat Aerin Frankel at 16:21.
Frankel stopped 20 pucks.
Jaques completed the scoring into an empty net with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.
Before Tuesday night’s duel, Boston had won six games in a row, and its last 12 games, including four in the playoffs, had been decided by one goal.
