LPHF Final | Boston wins Game 1 4-3 against Minnesota

(Lowell) Jess Healey scored from the point late in the second period to give Boston a 4-3 victory over Minnesota on Sunday in the first game of the first-ever Walter Cup final.

This best-of-five final of the inaugural season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League will continue on Tuesday. Some 4,508 fans were present in the stands for the first match.

Healey, a defender who scored one goal in the regular season, scored her first goal of the playoffs just 15 seconds after Taylor Heise’s second goal of the game for Minnesota. She thus created the tie with 2:50 to play in the second period.

Boston goalkeeper Aerin Frankel made 30 saves.

It was a fourth straight victory by a single goal for Boston, which swept Montreal in three games, all decided in overtime.

Taylor Wenczkowski and Hannah Brandt also scored in the victory, as did Michela Cava in the other clan.

Maddie Rooney stopped 18 pucks in the loss.
