LPHF | Boston beats Minnesota to force final matchup

(Saint Paul) Alina Müller scored at 18:36 in the second overtime period and Boston beat Minnesota 1-0 on Sunday night to force a fifth and final game in the final of the Walter Cup, in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

The decisive match will be played on Wednesday in Boston.

Theresa Schafzahl collected a loose puck and delivered it to Müller, who advanced to the faceoff circle and beat Nicole Hensley above the glove.

The goal came exactly one minute after a Minnesota goal was disallowed for goalie interference.

Taylor Heise carried the puck down the left side and headed toward the goal. The puck went to Sophie Jaques, who found the back of the net as Heise made contact with goalie Aerin Frankel.

“We knew we were going to score after their disallowed goal,” Müller said. Now we’re going back home and we’re going to wrap it up. It was an incredible effort. »

Frankel made 33 saves, while Hensley blocked 32 shots.

Both teams continued to struggle on the power play. The Minnesota squad did not score on five occasions Sunday, bringing their total to two goals scored in 26 power plays in the playoffs. Boston has had three power plays, but has yet to hit the target in such circumstances in 15 chances.
