Since December, all children between the ages of five and eleven have been eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine. Since the start of the vaccination campaign, only 1% of children have received their dose of vaccination.
A little more than two weeks after the opening of the vaccination campaign for 5-11 year olds, parents are still reluctant to do so. In a Parisian vaccination center dedicated to children, the staff do their best to make the atmosphere more reassuring for young patients and their parents. “It is not more difficult than adult vaccination, it takes longer. You have to be a little more pedagogue”, explains Estelle Ribier, the referring doctor at the vaccination center.
For the vaccination of children, health professionals must have the authorization of both parents. Some parents did not hesitate for a moment before resolving to do so. “There are studies which show that it works, and a lot of doctors who say it has to be done, so we didn’t ask ourselves too many questions and we made an appointment as soon as it was open”, testifies the mother of a child.
