A Blainville man exchanged text messages with his friend in which they discussed a trip before finally announcing to him that he had started seeing his ex-girlfriend. The same evening, he was stabbed and shot to death in his residence.

around 5 p.m. on October 6, 2021, Simon Décarie was trying to convince Maxime Villeneuve to come with him on a trip to Mexico in winter.
The text conversation was presented at Décarie’s jury trial. The 29-year-old man is accused of the premeditated murder of his friend.
The Sûreté du Québec investigated the scene where Maxime Villeneuve was killed on October 6, 2021, in Blainville.

That evening, the friendly conversation continued for a few minutes. Then around 10:30 p.m., Maxime Villeneuve sent a cryptic text message to his friend and ex-business partner announcing that he had started seeing his ex-girlfriend, but without ever naming her.
“Today we are together and that makes us both happy. I never thought I’d do that to you one day, but what’s done, is done, I can’t go back. [sic]“, he wrote.
Determined to take justice
“I don’t want to go to war with you […] [sic] You’ve always been my boyfriend. I hope you will forgive me,” he continued. The two then called each other several times on Messenger.
The accused was having a one-on-one dinner at home with his new acquaintance when he got up from the table after receiving a message, then promptly left his residence without explanation.
According to the Crown’s theory, Décarie then left from Terrebonne to Blainville to Maxime Villeneuve, angry, determined with the equipment he needed to take justice into his own hands.

Neighbors of the victim also told the jury that they called 911, around 11:12 p.m., after hearing gunshots in the residential area.
The 27-year-old construction worker died after being stabbed through the heart several times and shot in the abdomen, according to pathologist Caroline Tanguay.
A shooting session
Investigator Mathieu Lavigne, at the Sûreté du Québec, became aware last January of the existence of videos in which we see a man, whom he identifies as Simon Décarie, shooting a gun near a wooded area. The images were presented to the jury this morning.
A man also gave the police officer a shell casing from this shooting session which he sent to the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine for expertise.
Remember that Décarie was handcuffed 28 hours after the murder of his friend. In the trunk of his Mazda 3, the police found a firearm, which had no known owner at that time.
