Valentine’s Day: love at first sight at the nursing home

Valentine’s Day: love at first sight at the nursing home – (France 2)

As Valentine’s Day approaches, France 2 went to meet René and Jacqueline. The love story of the couple, aged almost 90, will be the subject of a television film.

Côtes-d’Armor is home to a couple who have become stars. And for good reason, René and Jaqueline, aged almost 90, are the subject of a film which will be broadcast on television. Both widowers and residents of a nursing home, they have been dating for three years but still have difficulty realizing what is happening to them. “I thought it was a one-night stand but fortunately it turned out differently,” jokes René Barzic. His partner, Jaqueline Vedrine, even speaks of a “miracle” : “Our meeting, I have the impression that it was written on marble in the universe.”

A virtual reality film

Their story was fully told in the local press, but more recently it also attracted the attention of a director from Saint-Brieuc, Vincent Lessirard. Touched by their story, he suggested they make a virtual reality film about their love story. “When we have personalities like René and Jaqueline, we know that it’s going to be a bit universal,” explains the director. “People will be able, through empathy, to put themselves in one person’s place or the other.”
