In the United States, the state of Louisiana has adopted a law that criminalizes the possession of an abortion pill without a prescription. Anyone who possesses them faces up to thousands of dollars in fines and could face prison time. The object of the crime? Mifepristone and misoprostol, in Louisiana. These two abortion pills are now considered “dangerous substances”.
Most abortions are already illegal in Louisiana. The text could serve as a model for other member states of the United States who hope to further restrict the procedure. US President Joe Biden describes this decision as “scandalous”. On social networks, Kamala Harris, vice-president of the United States, blames Donald Trump: “In Louisiana, extremists have just passed a law criminalizing the possession of safe and effective abortion medications (…) It’s Donald Trump’s fault.”.
