Louiseville: speeding in winter storm costs young driver dearly

A 19-year-old driver did not have cold feet when he over-speeded by more than 60 km/h during a winter storm on Highway 40, near Louiseville, in Mauricie, thus reserving for him a hefty fine.

Originally from Pierrefonds, the young man was given a statement of offense of $1,246 as well as 14 demerit points. His driver’s license was also suspended for seven days.

The vehicle was traveling at 161 km/h in a 100 km/h zone when a winter storm hit the region shortly before 3 p.m. on February 25.

“The Sûreté du Québec recalls that according to section 330 of the Highway Safety Code, the driver of a road vehicle must reduce the speed of his vehicle when visibility conditions are made insufficient due to darkness, fog , rain or other precipitation or when the road surface is slippery or not entirely clear, ”recalled the provincial police in a press release.
