Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel | Several night closures to be expected from Friday

The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will be closed in both directions, every night, from November 17 to 26. Quebec will carry out “preparatory interventions” to replace the infrastructure fans, in addition to carrying out other maintenance and inspection work.

This was announced on Monday by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) in a press release.

In the direction of the South Shore, Highway 25 will be closed between exit 4 and the entrance from Île Charron. During the week, from Monday to Thursday, traffic will be interrupted from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., then from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. between Friday and Saturday, from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. between Saturday and Sunday and from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sunday and Monday.

Souligny Avenue will also be closed eastbound, between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand streets, 30 minutes before.

Towards Montreal, traffic will be interrupted on the highway between exit 90 and the entrance from Notre-Dame Street East, according to the same schedule mentioned above.

The Ministry of Transport also noted that the entrance to Highway 25 in the north direction, at Hochelaga Street, will be closed during the night of November 17 to 18. All users are invited to consult the Québec 511 platform to better plan their trips during these closures.

At the end of October, a year after the start of the mega-construction project in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, Quebec admitted that certain delays were already observed on the schedule. Discussions will take place with the Renouveau-La Fontaine (RLF) consortium to speed up certain work during the winter period. A priori, the work must last until 2026, at least.

So far, the cost of the project remains unchanged for the moment, at around $2.5 billion. However, envelopes remain planned to anticipate “financial risks” that could arise along the way.
