Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel | Intoxication of two workers forces construction site to stop

Two men were poisoned by carbon monoxide while working in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel Friday afternoon. The site was closed because conditions there were not safe, according to the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST).

The Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) was informed of the incident on Friday afternoon. An inspection of the site took place and the site was closed around 10 p.m.

“The inspector noted significant deficiencies in the ventilation of the site on site,” specifies Nicolas Bégin, spokesperson for the organization.

The site closure will remain in effect until a new ventilation plan deemed safe is proposed and put in place, he explains.

According to our information, the two workers, who were treated by paramedics, are in stable condition.

The event will have no impact on traffic, since the affected portion of the tunnel was already closed to motorists
