Presented on May 24, 2022 out of competition, the new work by Louis Garrel The Innocent opens the eighth evening of the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. Very elegant in a navy blue suit with satin lapels associated with a fine tie of the same tone, the actor parade surrounded by his acolytes Anouk Grinberg, Roschdy Zem, Anne-Dominique Toussaint and Tanguy Viel but also with actress Noémie Merlant , sublime in a long black and gray sequined dress.
Earlier today, the 38-year-old filmmaker also presented his new film during the photocall on the Croisette. Dressed in wide white pants and a navy blue jacket, the one who received the César for best male hope in 2006 for The Regular Lovers and who has been nominated five times for the César was very enthusiastic about the idea of showing his new feature film.
The pitch? “When Abel (played by Louis Garrel) learns that his mother Sylvie (played by Anouk Grinberg), in her sixties, is about to marry a man in prison, he panics. Supported by Clémence, his best friend, he will do everything to try to protect her. But the meeting with Michel, his new father-in-law, could well offer Abel new perspectives….“
Interviewed by The Parisian, the director said that this film was based on anecdotes from his personal life. His mother, the actress and director Brigitte Sy, actually led theater workshops in prison. “I start from autobiographical situations. My mother started leading theater workshops in prison when I was 12 years old. It was incredible to frequent through the theater an environment that was not at all mine. Through my mother, I met former prisoners with whom she had worked…” he explained. A new film which necessarily has a very special place in the heart of the director…
Married since 2017 with Laetitia Casta, Louis Garrel and Laetitia Casta became parents of Azel (born in March 2021). The 43-year-old actress was already mother to Sahteene, born in 2001 from her union with photographer Stéphane Sednaoui, as well as Orlando and Athéna, born respectively in 2006 and 2009 from her love affair with Italian actor Stefano Accorsi. For his part, Louis Garrel adopted a little girl named Céline, in 2009, when he was in a relationship with Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi (the sister of Carla Bruni).
The film The Innocent will be released in cinemas in France on October 12, 2022.
