A film about the invisible

Marie-Line and the judge tells the story of an unlikely encounter between a slightly grumpy judge (Michel Blanc) and a young woman in trouble (Louane Emera). A bittersweet comedy shot by Jean-Pierre Améris in Le Havre which will follow this funny duo through the streets of the city. Louane remembers the shooting with pleasure.“It just made sense to do the preview here, because it was emotionally intense so we’re so happy to be there.”

The film is adapted from the novel Change the direction of the rivers of Murielle Magellan, the wife of Jean-Pierre Améris and once again he tells the life of the invisible. “It’s our common taste for modest people who we never see on screen or in books and who become their heroes”, reports the director, author of Fathers profession, A family for rent Or The emotional anonymous.

Le Havre, a film character

The city of Havre has always greatly inspired filmmakers. By Marcel Carné for Quay of the Mists in 1938 with Jean Gabin and Michèle Morgan to Belgian director Lucas Belvaux for A night via Aki Kaurismäki for Le Havre or more recently Valérie Donzelli for love and forests and Iris Kaltenbäck for The Rapturethese directors were seduced by the docks, the gray and heavy sky, the architecture of reconstruction, and the stretching of time.

If the port city has often been described as an “ugly city”, some directors manage to make it beautiful. For Jean-Pierre Améris, the choice to shoot in Le Havre was quickly imposed. “There was no question of filming elsewhere. This city is part of the film, it’s really a character”, says the director.

A festival to make your cinema

According to the Normandie Images agency, more than 350 days of filming were counted in 2022 in the town for feature films. It is therefore quite naturally that the Les Révélations festival was born this year. It is held in Le Havre from June 8 to 10, 2023. On the program: conferences, workshops and screenings in the presence of actors, directors and professionals of the 7th art.

The highlight of the festival will take place on Saturday June 10 in the Pathé des Docks Vauban shopping mall with participation in the shooting of a film directed by Le Havraise Myriam Donasis.
