Los Angeles Dodgers | Will Smith agrees to a 140 million contract over 10 years

(Los Angeles) Will Smith agreed to a 10-year, US$140 million contract to remain with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.


The catcher is hitting .500 this season (five for 10), with two RBIs.

The Dodgers opened the season last week with a two-game series against the San Diego Padres in Seoul.

Smith was an All-Star for the first time last year.

He hit .261 in 126 games, collecting 19 home runs and 76 RBIs.

Smith, 28, has a .263 average in six seasons with the Dodgers. He provided 91 home runs and 308 RBIs.

Since December, the Dodgers have spent nearly $1.4 billion on five key players, including Smith.

The group also includes Shohei Ohtani (US700 million for 10 years), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (US325 million for 12 years), Tyler Glasnow (more than US136 million for five years) and Teoscar Hernández (US23.5 million for one year ).

The inaugural game at Dodger Stadium is Thursday at 4:10 p.m. against the St. Louis Cardinals (Sportsnet Plus).
