Lorient does not stop, Clermont breathes, Toulouse shines … What to remember from Sunday’s matches

On the occasion of the 9th day of Ligue 1, Sunday October 2, Lorient confirmed its good start to the season against Lille (2-1), while Toulouse and Clermont won respectively against Montpellier (4-2) and Ajaccio (1-3). At the same time, Reims and Troyes drew, as did Auxerre and Brest.

The podium for a historic Lorient

But how far will these Hakes go? Thanks to a fifth victory in a row, against Lille (2-1), Lorient not only equaled the best series in its history dating from the autumn of 2013, but also managed to keep pace with the PSG and of his dolphin from Marseille in the ranking. Lorient is on the third step of the Ligue 1 podium, while Lille stagnates in the middle of the table.

Régis Le Bris’ men quickly took the lead thanks to an own goal from the unfortunate Bafodé Diakité (9′). Under the Breton drizzle, Lille then broke its teeth on the Breton defense until the expulsion of Dango Ouattara (62nd). In numerical superiority, Lille equalized thanks to Jonathan David (78th). But Théo Le Bris, the nephew of the Lorient coach, achieved a personal feat to allow the locals to win in the last minutes (87th).

The Toulouse attack blazes against Montpellier

A reaction Toulouse offered the scalp of Montpellier at the Stadium (4-2). After a first Hérault goal signed Nicolas Cozza, attentive to the six meters to take back a ball badly repelled by the goalkeeper (7th), the Violets recovered and unrolled. The Dutchman Stijn Spierings first equalized by throwing himself to conclude on a corner (18th).

Then Branco Van den Boomen then made his talent speak to offer the second Toulouse goal to Aboukhlal on a long opening (24th), then the break goal to Chaïbi with a delicious heel (31st). Brecht Dejaegere concluded the festival (48th). Note that the match was interrupted for ten minutes in the second half because of smoke bombs in the stands. Wahi’s goal did not change anything (68th) and Toulouse moved back to 11th place in the standings, just behind MHSC.

Troyes frustrates Reims

Reims believed in it against Troyes (2-2). The Japanese Junya Ito first served Folarin Balogun with a strong center for the opener (13th). Before turning into a scorer by restoring the advantage to the Rémois (53rd), who had conceded the equalizer from Wilson Odobert because of a blunder of young goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf (51st).

But then that they have not won in Troyes since 1973, the visitors did not retain their advantage, conceding a late equalizer from Jackson Porozo (90th + 2). The champagne can stay cool. Reims remains 17th, while Troyes is 11th.

Clermont rebels in the race to maintain

It’s getting tougher for Ajaccio who failed to follow up after their first victory of the season against Brest. Against Clermont, Olivier Pantaloni’s players lost in the money time (1-3). The Auvergnats first opened the scoring thanks to a acrobatic scissor from Grejohn Kyei (11th), before the Corsicans did not equalize thanks to a goal from defender Cédric Avinel (69th). But Rashani (89th) then Dossou (90th+1) punished the Corsicans at the very end of the match.

At the same time, the Brestois thought they were giving themselves some air after the goal of Islam Slimani (64th) in a rather lackluster match at Auxerre. But at 11 against 10, the Bretons did not hold and conceded the Burgundian equalizer on a penalty from Niang (86th). In the maintenance race, Clermont did the right thing by moving up to 9th place. Brest and Ajaccio remain in the red zone when Auxerre comes out for a point.
