Looking to 2022 | Events

All the reasons are good to demonstrate, from the “freedom convoy” at COP15, to the right to breastfeed in public. Many Quebecers took advantage of this right in 2022.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were several demonstrations of support for the Ukrainian people in Montreal, notably on April 16 at Place Jacques-Cartier.

Evening organized in Wendake on July 26, highlighting the arrival of walkers from Mashteuiatsh to meet the Pope in Quebec. The walkers traveled 275 kilometers to highlight the suffering experienced by Aboriginal people, particularly in residential schools.

Mothers breastfed in public at the Eaton Center in Montreal on March 27 to denounce the expulsion – at the same place – of a mother who had also fed her child.

On March 5, opponents of health measures formed what they called a “freedom chain”, along Highway 20, in Beloeil.

Despite a major police deployment, hundreds of demonstrators marched through the streets of downtown Montreal on December 7. Their goal ? Protest against the opening of COP15 on biodiversity and denounce the “hypocrisy” of the States that participate in it.

On October 22, thousands of people demonstrated their support for the Iranian people and denounced the oppressive political regime of the Islamic Republic in Montreal.

The decision of judge Matthieu Poliquin, who granted a conditional discharge to engineer Simon Houle after he admitted his guilt on charges of sexual assault and voyeurism, has shaken Quebec. Many activists gathered on July 10 at the Montreal Courthouse to denounce the flaws in the justice system when it comes to sexual violence.

Defense groups for the province’s English-speaking minority organized a demonstration on May 14 against Bill 96 on “the official and common language of Quebec, French”.
