In his microphone, always words that click, and rhymes that ring. It was a helping hand from destiny that made MC Solaar’s career take off more than 30 years ago. In 1990, his musician friend Jimmy Jay hit the jackpot with six good numbers, and bought some equipment. Which allows it to record Get out of here, which would become the very first French rap hit. Magician of words, MC Solaar has more than one card up his sleeve: in his title Carolinehe places all the symbols of the game in a chorus, the famous “ace of clubs that stings your heart”, a winning move.
A founding trip to Egypt
Metaphor, wink and hidden meaning constitute the style of the rapper, whose artistic inspiration is without borders. A seminal stay remains engraved in his memories: at the dawn of the 1980s, he spent a year in Egypt at just 12 years old, thanks to a diplomat uncle. “When we return to the Paris region, we have an opening to others”, he explains with hindsight.
