Ville de Longueuil triples the number of kilometers of cycle paths plowed in winter.
In recent weeks, a first section of a 14 km cycle path on the Green Route has been cleared of snow for the first time in Longueuil. The bar of 5 kilometers of snow-cleared bicycle lanes had never been crossed.
“I am proud that we managed to obtain this small victory quickly and at a lower cost, by working with the City’s Public Works team”, declared in a press release Marjolaine Mercier, municipal councilor, responsible for active mobility , the environment and the fight against climate change, health and healthy lifestyles within the City’s executive committee.
The snow-cleared portion starts at the Carignan boundary, crosses the Parc-de-la-Cité district, passes through the Laflèche district and goes to Jacques-Cartier Boulevard.
“I had the opportunity to test the section myself at a run and it was a real pleasure to meet families who were already benefiting from these new improvements,” said Alvaro Cueto, associate municipal councilor on these issues.
Until now, only 4.5 km of tracks have been cleared of snow, a section between Cégep Édouard-Montpetit and the Longueuil metro station.
The City of Longueuil wishes to continue its white network project, that is, bicycle paths accessible 12 months a year.
