(Calgary) Calgarian Ted-Jan Bloemen won gold in the men’s 5,000 meters on Wednesday at the Four Continents Championship.
Bloemen finished the race in 6:12, 38, the best Canadian performance of the day.
Albertan Kaleb Muller of Cranford finished behind his compatriot (6:23, 03). The Kazakh, Bakdaulet Sagatov, completed the podium (6:31, 77).
“I am very proud of my performance,” said Muller. Getting the second place is really great and finishing with a personal best is a great way to cap the day. ”
Montrealer Christopher Fiola finished just off the podium in the men’s 500m (34, 926). He finished a tenth and a few dust from first place.
He also missed the opportunity to seal his qualification for Beijing. He will have the chance to come back to Quebec later in December.
British Columbian Laura Hall took the silver in the women’s 3,000 meters, clocking 4: 20.68.
American Jamie Jurak took gold in 4:15, 46 and South Korea’s Chaewon Park bronze in a time of 4:20, 73.
Hall was also instrumental in winning the bronze medal for the Canadian pursuit team (1:46, 266).
The 18-year-old took the podium with teammates Carolina Hiller and Kali Christ.
Canada finished behind South Korea (1: 32, 120) and the United States (1: 30, 469).
The Four Continents Championship continues on Thursday with the 1500m for women and men as well as mass starts for women and men.
