(Kearns) Canada won gold in the women’s team pursuit event on Saturday at the Utah Olympic Oval.
Valérie Maltais of Saguenay, Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa and Isabelle Weidemann of Calgary won the event by a time of 2:52, 412.
The three Canadians were about a quarter of a second ahead of the Dutch team (2:52, 692 s). Russia finished third (2:56, 220).
Andzelika Wojcik of Poland won gold in the 500m in 36.775s. Angelina Golikova of Russia was second with a time of 36.786s. Olga Fatkulina of Russia was third in 36.937 seconds.
American Erin Jackson lost a 500-meter World Cup race for just the second time this season, after what she believed was a false start.
Jackson was sixth in 37.029 s. On Friday, she set an American record by winning the 500m in 36,809 seconds.
Jackson still leads the World Cup standings with 332 points, 36 more than Golikova.
Reigning Olympic 500m champion Nao Kodaira of Japan was eighth on Saturday.
American Joey Mantia won the men’s 1,500 in a personal best 1:41, 154 sec. He did not reach his goal of skating in less than 1:41.
Zhongyan Ning of China was second in a time of 1: 41,386, also a personal best. Thomas Krol of the Netherlands was third and Connor Howe of Canmore, Alta., Sixth.
In the women’s 1000m, Miho Takagi of Japan won in 1:11.834. Jutta Leedram of the Netherlands was second in 1:12, 254 s.
American Brittany Bowe was third.
Bowe and Takagi are tied atop the World Cup standings with 168 points each.
Bart Swings of Belgium, silver medalist at the 2018 Olympics, won the men’s mass start in 7:25.42 seconds.
