What a disappointment, last weekend, was the speech by Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois (GND), filled with aversion and animosity during the national council of Québec solidaire! There is no doubt, GND’s transformation into a career politician is complete. This type of attack on Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and the Parti Québécois does not benefit anyone. The terms used by GND only inflame the debate on immigration. This debate must be held by remaining calm and listening, and GND’s speech will in no way advance the discussion. The positions of QS and the PQ on immigration are different, but could GND have attacked the PQ position differently? Of course. Unfortunately, he prefers to target an enemy to galvanize his troops, what a disappointment!
Why attack the PQ, which is the natural ally of QS on several points? The latest news is that the Prime Minister is François Legault, and not Paul St-Pierre Plamondon. The disappointment was even greater because, the day before, the leader of the PQ had taken the trouble to congratulate Sol Zanetti for his clear and effective demonstration of the fiscal imbalance into which Canada is dragging us. Proof that the two parties can collaborate on different subjects, notably the independence of Quebec. GND’s regrettable comments at the end of the week will certainly not help bring the two parties closer together. We must keep in mind that the PQ and QS could be required to work together during a possible referendum on the sovereignty of Quebec…
No doubt, if GND stays in its position, QS will become a real party. Too bad, I preferred the positive solidarity of Quebec, which sometimes made people dream in a political world that was already quite pragmatic.
