London invests in its navy to counter the “growing Russian threat”

(Nusa Dua) British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday announced the construction of five additional war frigates “in the face of the growing Russian threat”, according to a statement from Downing Street.

This announcement made before the opening of the G20 summit in Bali represents a contract worth 4.2 billion pounds (5.77 billion dollars) to the British group BAE Systems by the Royal Navy.

“The United Kingdom and its allies are taking steps to strengthen their security in the face of the growing Russian threat,” said Downing Street.

This Tuesday, “the Prime Minister announced the new phase of the Type 26 frigates program” with five new frigates, in addition to three already under construction.

The British Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the G20 summit on the Indonesian island of Bali on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he intends to denounce the “barbarism” of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

“We must ensure that Vladimir Putin’s attempts to divide the international community fail,” he added according to the text. “This requires neighboring countries to end their dependence on Russian hydrocarbons.”
