For some adults, children are sometimes too noisy, or too agitated. In public places, adult tolerance quickly reaches its limits. Near Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), Sophie and Steven Rabory have been offering gîtes reserved for adults for seven months. According to them, the area is not suitable for toddlers. The absence of children also means peace of mind for travelers. They could be sued for discrimination, but assume it. “It’s not that we don’t love them, it’s that there are plenty of places to go with your children, here is a place where you don’t take them”comments Sophie.

A reservation criterion

The formula is attractive, since these cottages are almost full until July. On certain platforms, the absence of children has become a reservation criterion. In France, 5 to 7% of travel requests are affected, according to the tour operators’ union. Peace of mind, however, comes at a price: 45 to 100 euros extra for a seat reserved for adults on a Turkish airline plane. A couple, for their part, decided to celebrate their marriage without the children.
