locals try to flee Mariupol

Monday, March 28, at 33^and day of war in Ukraine, the inhabitants of Mariupol (Ukraine), besieged and bombarded by the Russians, try to flee the city. “When we left, we saw bodies everywhere. Arriving in Zaporizhia by car, we saw this little Ukrainian flag. No one could hurt us anymore, the horror was behind us”says Vika Pavlenko, a survivor of Mariupol.

To reach Zaporizhia (Ukraine), the survivors have to travel three hours in fear. “They intentionally shot at our car, with automatic weapons”, testifies Ludmila, a refugee from Mariupol, whose hands were hit by bullets. Magesta was in the Mariupol Theater when it was bombed. “During the collapse there was a white cloud of dust. We couldn’t see anything, it was horrible”, she says. Many Ukrainians know they will not return to their city.
