Local shopping: gourmet gifts | The Journal of Montreal

Quebecers want to encourage the local economy more than ever. Whether for a holiday gift or a hostess gift, the purchase of products made in Quebec is a great opportunity to express our commitment to our local businesses. I suggest eight of my favorites!

Food Pencil

Spice up your meals with a sharpening pencil? This is what this Montreal company offers. All you have to do is sharpen the pencils and place the finishing chips on our dishes. Among the flavors offered, we find: carrots-orange-ginger, fig and balsamic or mandarin and cinnamon. You can build your own boxes with the choice of three or six pencils or even offer duets or trios. What an original gift!

Juliet & Chocolate

Juliette, this sparkling woman, mother of five children, has always been in love with chocolate. Already at 22, she opened her first chocolate bar in Quebec. Almost 20 years later, Juliette & Chocolat has grown considerably both in terms of the products created in its Chocolate laboratory and in its nine restaurants. Juliette and her spouse, Lionel, combine a passion for entrepreneurship, chocolate and the family. Both within restaurants and on their online store, there are many gift options for all budgets. Will you fall for the hot chocolate pops, the chocolate bars to break, the collection of brownies or the gift boxes and baskets that come in several variations? Personally, I fall as much for the businesswoman as Juliette as for her chocolate delicacies!

Lulubelle & Co

This company that we were able to discover In the eye of the dragon have the wind in their sails! Its founder Marie Brossard had the idea to create this range of gluten-free mixes when her brother, suffering from celiac disease, came for Christmas dinner and brought a really inedible cake. After hundreds of tests, Marie brought out her gluten-free cake mixes, as decadent as those made from regular flour. Certified organic, the line also includes waffle, pancake and muffin mixes and food coloring, all available in grocery stores and online. For the holidays, Marie offers various gift baskets as well as delicious Christmas cookie mixes on her online store. Something to cook with the family in all simplicity.

Hello Simonne

Here is a range of hazelnut-chocolate spreads which is champion for its list of ingredients and its nutritional value. It is the spread that contains the most hazelnuts on the market, while being the least sweet. As a bonus, it is devoid of palm oil. Definitely a champion! Several gift boxes are available on the online store.

Signed camelina

We can surprise our guests by making them discover products made from camelina, cultivated on Quebec lands. Rich in omega-3, withstanding cooking well, camelina oil is very versatile. You can get different discovery boxes on their online store which brings together different products including roasted camelina oil, camelina seeds, Camelina vegetable bites, camelina honey and chocolate with camelina oil. Definitely a gift that will appeal to health conscious people!

Surette Condiments

Balsamic vinegar made from Quebec apples? This is what Surette Condiments offers to the palate. The balsamic of cider aged 2 years and that of late grand cru apples are particularly tasty. They both won awards at the Great Taste Award in London last September as they competed against more than 14,000 products. The grand cru has even obtained a prestigious 3 stars awarded to only 2% of the products tasted. If they won over the members of the international jury, there is no doubt that they will seduce you too.

Downright tart

An artisanal tart created by Katell and Philippe, two Bretons living in Quebec for 15 years, that speaks to me! All pasta is pure butter, without shortening or palm oil. Available in five flavors (lemon-meringue, fudge, dark chocolate, pecans, lime-coconut), you can also get a box of mini portions and thus have something for everyone.

Macaroni and co

Macaroni et cie offers colorful pasta made from fruits (blueberries), vegetables (beets, red peppers, spinach) and spices (turmeric). Pasta has been developed to make meals even more appealing to children. The colors are preserved during cooking. The festive Christmas mix offers colorful macaroni in Christmas hues, including natural dyes (beets, paprika and spirulina). A great gift for parents!

Happy Christmas everyone and, above all, remember to encourage our businesses and our merchants!
