The Flamanville EPR should be operational by next summer. Loading of the enriched uranium assemblies has started in the reactor core.

This time, EDF swears: repeated delays and poor workmanship are a thing of the past. The Flamanville EPR (Manche) will finally enter service. “Our teams are proud to have reached this first milestone of start-up authorization and loading, but there will be others“, says Alain Morvan, project director, Friday May 17. The nuclear fuel can now be loaded into the reactor. The machine deposits the 241 enriched uranium assemblies one by one at the bottom of the tank. They will constitute the heart of the reactor .

The next step will take place in a few weeks. This will be the first nuclear reaction, controlled from a control room. Electricity production could begin next summer. The project will have cost nearly 20 billion euros. The EPR should produce the equivalent of electricity consumption in Paris.
