British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on Thursday after just six weeks in office that looked like a descent into hell, triggering a new internal election within the Conservative Party.
“Given the situation, I cannot fulfill the term on which I was elected by the Conservative Party,” said Ms Truss, who becomes the shortest-lived head of government in contemporary UK history. United, outside 10 Downing Street.
She specified that a new internal ballot would take place within the majority “by next week” to replace her.
