I love the song My freedom sung by Serge Reggiani. But hey, it’s not this freedom, but that claimed by libertarians during the present pandemic, that it’s about.
A protester among the convoy of unvaccinated truckers who invaded Ottawa this weekend even seriously declared “my body belongs to me”, a slogan that refers to a feminist demand for abortion. Those who protest health measures, in the name of freedom, should know that living in society necessarily means giving up part of our freedom. The laws voted infringe our freedoms. For example, the prohibition to pass on a red light or the obligation to wear a seat belt in the car and so many other prohibitions are an attack on our freedoms. However, I am sure that these protesters accept them, but in the case of the pandemic, they refuse health measures, look for the error. In a democracy, whether or not we agree with the laws and decrees, we are all subject to them because there are limits to our individual freedoms for the benefit of the community.
