The city of the Beatles becomes that of Taylor Swift for a week. The singer inaugurates a series of three concerts on Thursday June 13 at Anfiled, the stadium of Liverpool FC. In their green uniform, four schoolgirls take many selfies on a fake swing surrounded by a blue sky with a few white clouds. It is one of eleven art installations linked to Taylor Swift. ‘We went to ‘Lover’ and ‘Folklore’ and this is ‘1989’, it’s our favorite”lists one of the schoolgirls.
Each installation represents an album by the singer, a “time” according to its own term. In front of a throne in the shopping center, Sabine and Marie, wearing t-shirts bearing the image of their idol, are getting ready. They comb their hair and put on rose-colored glasses before photographing themselves in front of this work which represents the album Reputation : “We’re from Yorkshire, we took the train this morning. We’re going to see her in concert at Wembley. We didn’t have tickets for Liverpool but we took a day to come here.”
Pippa Horrocks, who is part of the municipal team which carried out this project, is delighted. “We want to, in a way, establish Liverpool’s position as the best British city for major eventsshe explains. By doing this, we offer a global experience to those who come to the concerts. They spend in our bars, our restaurants, our stores, etc….”
In the city of the Beatles, the Taylor Swift craze is spreading to the university. A full day of work and discussions takes place there at the initiative of Dr Sam Murray : “As a university, we believe it is important to understand these huge gatherings and the impact on our businesses. In just a few days in Liverpool, Taylor will generate £18-35 million of revenue into the local economy [21 à 41 millions d’euros]. We must know how to optimize, approach 35 rather than 18, or even exceed them. And making sure the city is ready for this kind of event.”
At Anfield stadium, where Taylor Swift will sing, the legendary Reds store has even packed the football jerseys to leave room for its derivative products.
