Viewers weren’t surprised to see the tone rise between Christiane Taubira and Christophe Dechavanne in the latest issue of what time on France 2, Saturday, January 14. Indeed, the former Minister of Justice, known for not letting herself be stepped on, was questioned when she came to the program on the remarks made in September 2021 concerning vaccination against Covid-19 in Guyana, where she is from. At the time, less than 20% of the population had been fully vaccinated and the politician refused to call on the population to be vaccinated.
“We have to stop dwelling on the same whims. In Guyana, it is not that people were against the vaccine. It is that political speech is speech that is not believed and which is not received. And when you have senior officials who come on the radio or TV to insult people or threaten them, that’s not a relationship of trust.”she let go in a harsh tone. “You do not question the prefect for his incoherent remarks, you do not question the director general of the regional health agency about his attitude or his incoherent remarks, and then at the turn of a sentence, I am told , ‘Why don’t you call on the French to get vaccinated?'”, she continued. “You are going to make a soap opera for how many centuries?
“So we can’t basically contradict you?”he asked. “No, it is not a question of contradicting me, but me, here, I have the right to contradict you”. During this tense exchange, Christophe Dechavanne was simply able to place a “But who cares ma’am” suffocated by the palavers of his interlocutor. “The blows, I took it. It takes a lot of imagination to invent other blows and other violence against me. So I am not in question, but I hit, I fight!”she concluded, applauded by the public.
