Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Secretary General Alessandro Chiocchetti have decided to ban the use of the TikTok application on the institution’s professional devices. The European Commission announced on Thursday February 23 a similar measure followed by the White House on Monday 27. What is pushing various Western institutions to ban the TikTok application from their employees is tied around the issue of data leakage. In October 2022, TikTok was pinned for having integrated a tracking pixel which makes it possible to locate Internet users.
In this sense, the parent company of the ByteDance application is the subject of increasing surveillance by Westerners for fear of direct access given to Beijing to the data of TIkTok users.
