France Télévisions left on Monday, April 18, in Ain, in Saint-Vulbas, a town located near the Bugey nuclear power plant, to question the inhabitants about this cohabitation.

This is one of the major themes of the presidential campaign: should we go further in nuclear power and build new power plants, even if it means doing less renewables, as Marine Le Pen says? But beyond the strategic interest, there is also the idea of living next to nuclear reactors.

In Saint-Vulbas (Ain), a small town located next to the Bugey power station, opinions are divided. The plant came out of the ground nearly fifty years ago. It is the oldest nuclear power plant in the country. On site, the reactors are omnipresent. A cohabitation lived more or less well. “I don’t even pay attention to it anymore”confides a resident, while a man remarks: “We live with it, but it can fall on our faces (sic), as they say, overnight.” On site, the central is the first regional employer. But anti-nuclear groups are now demanding the closure of Bugey, which they believe is too old, after that of Fessenheim (Haut-Rhin), two years ago.
