The Châlons-en-Champagne public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation against a pig farm in Corbeil (Marne), targeted by a complaint from the animal defense association L214, the prosecutor announced to AFP on Wednesday October 25, confirming a log information The union. This investigation, opened for “serious abuse of captive animals” and “animal mistreatment by a person operating a breeding farm”, was entrusted to the Vitry-le-François research brigade, said prosecutor Annick Browne.

L214 filed a complaint at the beginning of October against this farm and revealed a video, filmed according to the association between May and September 2023, showing in particular live castrations of piglets. The video also shows the remains of piglets crushed by their mothers, corpses intended for rendering colonized by maggots, and piglets killed by being “slammed” against a concrete floor.

A check carried out on October 5 in this pig farm had “concluded that there are no differences” with the regulations, but breeding had “recognized having carried out the live castration of piglets during 2022 and until August 2023”, had announced the Marne prefecture, asking it to “sustainably remedy” to this practice.
