The driver who allegedly grabbed a 7-year-old child from Ukraine was charged Wednesday with a fatal hit-and-run.
Juan Manuel Becerra Garcia, a 45-year-old man, formally appeared around noon at the Montreal courthouse.
The crown, represented by Me Alexandre Gautier, opposed his release.
The crash that claimed the child’s life on Tuesday morning occurred on her way to school.
“He is someone who has no criminal history. He fully cooperated with the police,” explained the defendant’s lawyer, Mr.e Eric Coulombe.
“We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family. [de la victime]. It is surely a disturbing event, we will work with her for the rest of the things, ”added the Crown.
