According to Axel de Tarlé, it is more comfortable for a journalist to work in a public media than in a private media. Firstly because in the public service, field editors have more freedom vis-à-vis their hierarchy and above all because they do not have to censor themselves as journalists in the private sector do when is to talk about the main shareholder of their media.

The journalist specializing in the economy also considers “dramatic” the concentration of the media in France in the hands of a few billionaires.

Axel de Tarlé came “to the info counter” with a sound archive dating from 1997. He was then a young journalist at Europe 1. He wanted to interview Bernard Tapie, whom he had just met in a corridor of the station. Very quickly, the interview got out of hand and the businessman threw at him: “You will never broadcast this interview because the Lyon credit has you by the c…….!”. Indeed, Axel de Tarlé did not broadcast it, but for a very different reason, according to him: 25 years ago, journalists were much looking for “buzz” than today.

About the podcast: “Au Comptoir de l’Info” is France Télévisions’ first native (audio) podcast. In the form of a journalistic interview, an actor who produces public service television information — a major reporter, a cameraman, a presenter — comes to give himself up, tell, reveal the way he works. In a sound atmosphere of a coffee counter, he confides his doubts, his joys, but also his fears when he is on the ground or in the studio. Since May 2021, the podcast “At the info counter” has also received journalists from Radio France (France Inter, France Info, France Culture) at its microphone.

The series is produced by François Beaudonnet, columnist for franceinfo (channel 27), senior reporter for France 2 and columnist for the program “Nous, les Européens” on France 3. A former correspondent in Rome and Brussels, he started out on the radio where he presented the 1 p.m. news on France Inter.

This episode was directed by Antonin Fajon.
