Yesterday, Monday December 19, France only had eyes for its Blues. After a formidable journey in Qatar and unfortunately a final defeat against Argentina, Didier Deschamps and his men received a huge welcome in Paris. Indeed, nearly 50,000 people were waiting for the vice-world champions at Place de la Concorde to give them an ovation commensurate with their heroism during the last match of the World Cup. Despite a big success in the applause, Kylian Mbappé still seemed to be in shock from the setback inflicted by Lionel Messi and his teammates.
On the side of South America, the atmosphere was of course a little more euphoric when the Argentine heroes returned. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, at 2:40 a.m. local time (6:40 a.m. in France), the world champions paraded, trophy in their hands, on a bus which crossed Buenos Aires. As expected, a huge crowd had made the trip to applaud the selection which won its third star on December 18th. But an accident almost ruined the party…
Indeed, the footballers present on the bus, Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi, were almost swept away by an electric cable which came loose. However, they managed to duck at the last second and thus avoid the disaster that could have caused them to fall from the vehicle carrying them. Only Paredes’ cap was blown off the cable and fell into the crowd below. The World Cup that Lionel Messi was also nearly shaken up and fell in the middle of the supporters who would have found themselves very happy with such an object in their hands. After heaving a big sigh of relief, the players quickly found a smile, like Rodrigo De Paul, decisive in Sunday’s final who encouraged his teammates to resume the course of the festivities.
