Lionel Mansour, sports director of the tennis section at ASM

Tennis is a means, it’s a bit of an excuse to encourage young people to come and practice. We are also on other missions, on culture, on different activities other than playing tennis.

Interview by Mirna from Onde Carriere

Originally from Martinique, Lionel Mansour arrived at the club somewhat by chance. Having completely found himself in the values and the organization of the club, he has been with ASM for more than ten years.

The tennis section has 600 members aged 4 to 99!

We want everyone to find their place.

Tennis has a somewhat elitist image. The idea is therefore to democratize as much as possible and to show that tennis is accessible.

Fête le mur is an association created by Yannick Noah and his mother more than 25 years ago. Its objective is to integrate young people through education, sport and also culture. It allows young people from neighborhoods who would not necessarily have the possibility and the means to go to private clubs, to practice tennis with a license from the federation offered.

ASM Omnisports, located in the Gauthière district, can encourage young people who are present to come and play. Tennis is a medium. The association is also on other missions: culture, different activities other than playing tennis to invest young people as much as possible in the club.

The 110 years of ASM seen by Lionel Mansour

“So talking about 110 years of evolution, I’m not going to allow myself, it will be ambitious for me, but in any case, I am very attached to the fact, precisely, that there is a history at the club. These 110 years, it shows precisely a historic club. And when we see the values when the club was created by Marcel Michelin, there were huge changes in the club to adapt to the current period, but at the same time, there were no more profound changes in philosophy: i.e. allow the practice to the greatest number. It was already the philosophy when the club embarked on this mission. _Also allow national and international competitions_. We were already in this dynamic: allow everyone to play, no matter who you are. Allow those who play well, who perform better to go even further. So me, I am very happy to see that we are going in this direction, always faithful also to what was announced from the start and to the values which are those of the club.
