Lionel-Groulx college confined because of a “potential active shooter” in the sector

The presence of a “potential active shooter” forces the confinement of students and employees of the Lionel Groulx college, said the establishment of Sainte-Thérèse. Police were dispatched to the scene.

“The situation is under police control and the research is in progress”, indicated the direction of the college Lionel Groulx on the social networks, which specifies that the confinement in progress within the establishment takes place in a “preventive” way, since a suspicious individual “would have been seen outside the college”.

The establishment first reported on Friday afternoon the potential presence of an “active shooter” in the area. “All those present at the college must confine themselves inside their premises until further notice. If you are on the grounds outside the college, you must leave immediately. Classes are suspended for the rest of the day,” the school said in a notice released around 2:20 p.m.

The Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville also confirmed shortly before 2:30 p.m. that a police operation is underway “near the Lionel-Groulx college” in connection with the presence of a “potentially armed” individual. No injuries are reported at this time.

“My teams are monitoring the situation closely. We ask citizens to let the police do their job and follow the instructions, ”reacted on social networks the Minister of Public Security, François Bonnardel, while the testimonies of worried parents accumulate on the Web.

Collège Lionel-Groulx welcomes nearly 6,000 students.
