Lincoln would have five electric SUVs by 2026

The transformation of Lincoln, which has become a brand of SUVs in full since the abandonment of the Continental, will continue in the next five years with the electrification of its range.

According to anonymous sources cited by the news agency Reutersfive electric SUVs will see the light of day by 2026 either to replace current models or to sell in parallel.

Remember that the manufacturer Ford will devote more than 30 billion US dollars (approximately 38 billion Canadian dollars) to the production of electric vehicles and batteries by 2025. It also aims for 40% of its vehicles sold in the world to be 2030 run without gasoline.

On that date, Lincoln will be 100% electric.

An electric Lincoln Aviator must start the ball rolling. Its unveiling is scheduled for this year, but production will be a long wait. It may not start before December 2024, according to information reported by Automotive News a few weeks ago. The plant has not yet been chosen either, but the one in Oakville, Ontario could be selected.

This is where Ford assembles the Edge and Lincoln Nautilus crossovers, which in all likelihood will not be renewed. The second will instead give way to an all-new battery-powered SUV.

When renewing its collective agreement with the Unifor union in September 2020, the automaker pledged to invest $1.8 billion to convert Oakville into an electric vehicle factory. The plan is to manufacture five Ford and Lincoln models there between 2025 and 2028.

Also expect an electric version of the Corsair compact SUV and a new, smaller entry-level model. At the other end of the scale, an electric companion to the big Navigator should arrive with the same chassis as the F-150 Lightning.

As for the plug-in hybrid versions of the Corsair and Aviator, their future remains unresolved.
