The Les Républicains mayor of Limoges, Émile-Roger Lombertie, was violently attacked on Sunday evening, around 8:30 p.m., in the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville, reported France Bleu Limousin on Monday, July 8. According to his entourage, he was beaten and insulted while trying to put out a barbecue lit by demonstrators celebrating the results of the New Popular Front. Damien Maudet (NFP – LFI), Stéphane Delautrette (NFP – PS) and Manon Meunier (NFP – LFI), the three outgoing deputies of Haute-Vienne, were re-elected.

After the results of the legislative elections were announced, a few dozen activists from the New Popular Front gathered in the town hall square with flags, musical instruments and a barbecue. According to his entourage and witnesses, the mayor was hit and insulted by about fifteen individuals when he came down the steps of the Town Hall to stop the barbecue. Émile-Roger Lombertie wanted to put out the flames with water from the fountain in the square and was then insulted and punched.

The municipal police, who were already on the scene, exfiltrated the elected official. According to his entourage, the mayor was not injured but came away shocked by this attack.
