Almost a year has passed since the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023. In Gaza, the city’s landscape is now devastated and the population is permanently wandering, often hungry because they are primarily dependent on the food program.
In Gaza, two thirds of buildings were destroyed or damaged. More than 41,000 deaths have been recorded, according to Hamas figures. In this disaster, victims are not always identified. Tala, 10 years old, died on September 3. Gazans call her the “roller skate girl”. She was killed in a strike. Before she died, she begged her parents to let her go out rollerblading. Today, her childhood bedroom is empty: “I saw his roller skates, now there’s blood on them. It was the only thing I could see in the dust and debris”says his father.
Another face like that of little Rym, 4 months old. Today, all he has left is his grandmother because his father, mother and eight brothers and sisters were killed in a strike: “How to bring back your mother, your father… 12 people disappeared in a second, bombed while they were having dinner”. Rim was miraculously found alive in the rubble of her home. Israel explains that it shelled this western district of Khan Younes because Hamas men were hiding there.
