The Life For Paris association criticizes Emmanuel Macron for not attending the ceremony honoring the victims of terrorism on Monday March 11. “See that the president is not traveling, that he is not going to speak on this occasion and moreover, if we push the reasoning further, that he preferred to speak about the end of life the same day, it shows that terrorism has become a bit of a secondary subject for him”judge Arthur Dénouveaux, its president on franceinfo.

It is the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, who speaks during this ceremony in Arras (Pas-de-Calais). “It obviously has less value”insists Arthur Dénouveaux. “Last year, in his speech on March 11, he [Emmanuel Macron] said ‘it’s important that the President of the Republic is there'”, he adds. For him, “that says something, it says that we have probably moved to another phase and that the victims of terrorism will take on less importance in the public debate.”

“Protest against this downgrading”

The president of Life for Paris, created after the attacks of November 13, 2015, is also absent from this ceremony. For him, “it is a way, somewhere, of protesting against this downgrading. It is also a way of protesting against the practical conditions which mean that we were warned ten days before that it would be in Arras and that we were said that we would not cover travel costs for the victims.

“In any case, a good number of presidents of victims’ associations will be in Madrid because today is the 20th anniversary of the great attack which caused mourning” the Spanish capital. “Emmanuel Macron will not be there either”, he still denounces. The national and European day in tribute to the victims of terrorism takes place each year on March 11, the anniversary of this terrorist act which left 192 dead.
