Access to knowledge allows the exercise of one’s rights, inclusion in society and the emancipation of all. This is why since 2007, Library without borders promotes access to information, education and culture for those who are deprived of it.
Much more than a collection of books, libraries are both places for personal development, spaces for creation and emancipation. However, they are very often absent where people need them most.
Whether virtual or physical, fixed or mobile, libraries give everyone the tools to understand and better apprehend the world. They provide free access to new educational and digital instruments, playing a fundamental role for equal rights: they are places of discovery, social diversity and cultural mixing. They are the very foundation of a society open to the world and carry within them the ability to imagine the future.
Creating innovative methodologies and toolsLibraries Without Borders is thus participating in reinventing libraries, both in their form and their missions and in the way they are perceived and appropriated by the most vulnerable populations.
Augustin Trapenard in 2018 became the first sponsor of Libraries Without Borders. A 52-minute documentary is currently in preparation. Directed by Louis Villers, it will bring together all of Augustin Trapenard’s travels and will examine the place of culture in the reconstruction of human beings, particularly in crisis situations and after conflicts.
