(Ottawa) Yves Robillard, who represents the riding of Marc-Aurèle-Fortin, in Laval will lose responsibility for traveling outside the country when the federal government asked Canadians to avoid non-essential travel.

The whip of the Liberal Party of Canada, Steven MacKinnon, said he was “deeply disappointed” to learn that the elected official decided to travel outside the country anyway. However, he did not disclose where Mr. Robillard went.

“Although the MP is fully vaccinated, his travel is not considered essential, and therefore he will be removed from his post on parliamentary committees,” said the whip in a written statement. The MP first elected in 2015 sat on the Standing Committee on National Defense.

He will have to explain himself when he returns from his trip, MacKinnon said.
