LG Launches Innovative C5, G5, and M5 OLED TV Series

At CES 2025, LG revealed its new C5, G5, and M5 television series, featuring advanced White-OLED panels without the MLA filter but enhanced brightness through a multi-layered system. The M5 series offers a “zero connect” wireless box for flexible setup, while both G5 and M5 utilize the second-generation Alpha 11 processor with AI capabilities. The C5 series has a lower brightness level and uses the 8th generation Alpha 9 processor. All models feature a new remote and run on webOS 2025, introducing AI enhancements. Pricing and availability details are forthcoming.

Introduction to LG’s New TV Series at CES 2025

At CES 2025, LG unveiled its latest television models from the C5, G5, and M5 series, which are the successors to the C4, G4, and M4 lines. These cutting-edge TVs are equipped with a state-of-the-art White-OLED panel produced by LG Display. Although this new generation omits the MLA filter seen in the previous models, LG touts enhanced brightness due to a multi-layered panel system, though specific details about this technology remain undisclosed. A closer look at the images reveals a striking similarity in sub-pixel structure to earlier generations.

Features of the M5 and G5 Series

The M5 series stands at the pinnacle of LG’s offerings, available in sizes ranging from 65 to an impressive 97 inches. It utilizes the same panel technology as the G5 series but introduces a “zero connect” wireless box, allowing users to relocate connections and electronics, similar to the M4 series. This innovative solution transmits audio and video signals while supporting various VRR standards, including AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync, alongside exceptionally high refresh rates of up to 144 Hz—perfect for gamers. The upgraded “zero connect” box now boasts a more robust signal, making it possible to conceal it within furniture.

Both the G5 and M5 series are powered by the second-generation Alpha 11 image processor, featuring AI-driven capabilities such as AI Picture Pro for superior upscaling and AI Sound Pro for immersive audio across 11.1.2 virtual channels. Notably, 2025 marks the introduction of the Filmmaker mode, which automatically adjusts image settings based on ambient light conditions in the room.

The G5 and M5 series also incorporate the Brightness Booster Ultimate technology, offering enhanced brightness compared to earlier models (with the exception of the 97-inch variant, which shares brightness levels with the G4). However, the anti-reflective treatment on the panel does not match the advanced technology found in Samsung’s S95D series, which has set the benchmark in this category.

Exploring the C5 Series and Remote Control Innovations

The LG G5 series utilizes the same Brightness Booster Ultimate panel and image processing capabilities as the M5, with connections and electronics conveniently placed at the back. It comes in a variety of sizes, including 48, 55, 65, 77, 83, and 97 inches, and supports both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium technologies, reaching refresh rates up to 165 Hz.

In contrast, the C5 series features a panel with lower brightness compared to the G5 and M5 models, powered by the 8th generation Alpha 9 image processor. It is available in 42 and 48 inches, providing peak brightness levels that are less than those of the larger models. Like the G5 series, the C5 supports AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync technologies, with refresh rates of up to 144 Hz. The design of the stand remains consistent with previous series.

Additionally, the C5, G5, and M5 series all introduce a revamped remote control for 2025. Operating on two batteries, the new remote features a sleeker design but unfortunately lacks backlighting. It retains the gyroscope system for easy navigation of the webOS interface. Notably, there is a dedicated button for AI functions, which are currently unavailable in France, and another for assistance. The remote also includes toggle buttons for volume and channel control, along with direct access to popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, LG Channels, and Alexa.

webOS 2025 Features

LG televisions will continue to operate on the webOS platform, now in its 2025 version. While the interface remains largely unchanged, new AI interaction capabilities are introduced, although they are not yet available in France. This includes enhanced search functionalities for both programs and online content through Microsoft Copilot. Users can also create AI-generated wallpapers and receive content recommendations tailored to their viewing habits. Furthermore, the system can recognize different voices, personalizing the webOS experience for each family member.

Earlier models from 2021 through 2024 will also receive the webOS 25 update, rolling out later this year.

Availability and Pricing Information

As of now, LG has yet to disclose specific availability dates or pricing details for the C5, G5, and M5 television series. This information is anticipated to be revealed later in the year, so stay tuned for updates.
