The deputies of La France insoumise announced Wednesday, November 2 the filing of a new motion of censure against the government. This decision follows the triggering of a fourth 49.3 by Elisabeth Borne to have the entire 2023 draft budget of the State adopted without a vote at first reading in the National Assembly.
This motion is once again tabled by the LFI group alone, without the other left-wing parties. “This is not a fundamental difference. We will find ourselves on a motion of censure rather on the end of these texts” budget in December, assured the press the leader of the deputies LFI Mathilde Panot.
But the choice divides within the Nupes. The Socialist deputies refuse for example the “trivialization of motions of censure”, declared their spokesman, Arthur Delaporte, on the same line as the ecologists.
In their text, these LFI deputies denounce a “contempt of power for parliamentary work, an inability to convince and an increasingly authoritarian use of the mechanisms of the Fifth Republic”. Parliamentarians believe that “the government seeks here to mask the generalized austerity for housing, national solidarity, public services, school or equality between women and men”.
For their part, environmentalists have planned to retaliate by filing a constitutional bill aimed at establishing a “49.3 citizen”. The objective would be to allow 1% of the electorate to trigger a referendum in order to block a text of law, according to a press release from Benjamin Lucas.
