The first strawberries come to us from the south then they come up to us over the season to offer us beautiful locally grown fruits.
Make no mistake though, strawberries are a false fruit! When you bite into a strawberry, you eat hundreds of small fruits! Because it is the achenes, the small yellow seeds that make up the fruit of the strawberry plant. We therefore swallow the achenes at the same time as the strawberry.
This beautiful red strawberry, which comes in thousands of varieties (mara des bois, gariguette, charlotte or ciflorette…) is full of water and vitamin C. It is low in calories and makes for tasty desserts.
Mickael Fils, the pastry chef The Nelsonwell known to locals, makes sumptuous classic desserts, such as strawberry or charlotte, but he also likes to cook them warm, combined with Grand Marnier or a few fresh herbs such as thyme, mint or basil.
