On the occasion of the first March for Life in Quebec, feminist community groups, 2SLGBTQIA+, unions and abortion rights activists are mobilizing to denounce this anti-choice demonstration and reaffirm loud and clear that the majority of the Quebec population is firmly pro-choice.
In a global context where we are observing a rise of the conservative right, it is imperative to remind everyone that setbacks for reproductive rights are a real danger for the health, autonomy and rights of women and individuals. of gender diversity. These setbacks will never have their place in our society.
We must remain vigilant and united to protect our gains and fight for a better future.
Free choice means defending the right of each woman or each person to decide whether or not she wants children, to determine how many and when she will be pregnant. But is the choice really free when a society no longer values social minimums, such as an adequate number of places in educational childcare services and access to healthy and affordable housing? We embody intersectional pro-choice values to combat racism, colonialism, poverty, ableism and systemic transphobia.
We are a powerful, united, joyful and strong movement. We call for unprecedented solidarity. We urge all people in favor of bodily autonomy to reject any attempt to limit the right to abortion. We must fight together against patriarchal systems that oppress all women and people of gender diversity. Faced with the conservative and retrograde right, we speak with one voice!
Now more than ever. Our message is clear and simple: we are pro-choice! We will fight, we will resist and we will be firm and tenacious, because together, and across all generations, we are unshakeable.
